Artificial Intelligence
Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools in Revista Claves Jurídicas
Revista Claves Jurídicas recognizes that artificial intelligence systems, whether large language models (LLMs) or generative AI tools, have the potential to assist in certain stages of the manuscript drafting and editing process. However, their use must comply with criteria of transparency, responsibility, verifiability, and ethical appropriateness.
Human Responsibility and Authorship
Responsibility for the content rests exclusively with the authors. In accordance with international editorial ethics guidelines ([1] Committee on Publication Ethics; [2] Elsevier; [3] Nature Portfolio; [4] Sage), artificial intelligence tools may not be recognized as authors or co-authors of submitted texts. The signatory authors assume full responsibility for the entire manuscript, including data, arguments, results, citations, references, tables, figures, and any content generated or substantially assisted by AI.
Permitted Uses of Artificial Intelligence
AI tools may be used as support for tasks such as grammar correction, improving clarity, style review, translation, or the preliminary structuring of concepts. This instrumental use must not replace the intellectual, methodological, analytical, or interpretative contribution of the authors ([3]; [4]).
It is not necessary to declare the use of AI when it is limited to minor adjustments in grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, style, or formatting, provided that it does not involve the autonomous generation of content ([3]; [4]).
Mandatory Declaration of Significant AI Use
When artificial intelligence tools are used significantly in the preparation of the manuscript, an explicit declaration must be included in a footnote ([2]). This declaration must specify:
• the tool used,
• the purpose of its use,
• the stage or section of the manuscript in which it was applied.
Visual Materials Generated or Modified by AI
The use of generative AI to create or alter images, figures, graphs, data, or visual materials must be expressly declared. Such materials may be evaluated by the editorial team, which reserves the right not to accept them when they compromise the integrity, authenticity, traceability, or academic validity of the article ([2]; [3]).
Declaration Template
If AI is used, authors must include a note at the end of the article following the suggested structure below:
The authors declare that they used [name of the tool] for [specific purpose]. The tool was used in [stage or section of the article]. The content generated or assisted by AI was reviewed, corrected, and validated by the authors, who assume full responsibility for the final version of the article.
